Tipping in the USA

In the United States tips are the the majority of income for service positions such as waiters. Unlike in other countries paying an additional percentage for the wait staff is expected. For larger parties many restaurants will include a gratuity of 18% if this is so then additional tip is not necessary.

General guidelines for tipping are:
Excellent service: 20%
Good service: 15%
Poor service: less than 15%
Other common places where tip is given
Hotel room maid: $1 per day, left clearly marked as tip
Valet Parking: $2-$3 when the car is brought
